Russian officer was drunk on board the vessel and was found to be eight times over the limit when the vessel ran aground at full speed on to rocks in the Highlands.

Loss of power caused the vessel to be in real danger of grounding on Cape Dolphin, East Falkland caused by a gale.  The order was given by the captain for the 347 passengers and crew to abandon ship.

The vessel was torn part caused by the storm which hit the vessel on the 17/18th November. The ship broke in to small amounts leaking diesel oil in to the sea.
