Sale of Diana containership falls through
The sale of a panamax boxship owned by Diana Containerships has fallen through after the buyer failed to receive approval from its board of directors. The sale of the Cap Domingo (3,739 teu, built 2001) was agreed for $24.25m on July 28, subject to the green light from the unnamed buyer’s board. NASDAQ-listed Diana Containerships said it was informed on September 4 that the approval had not been granted. The vessel is currently chartered to Germany’s Rudolf A Oetker KG on a one-year contract

Multipurpose Sea Cargo Complex "Bronka" (MSCC Bronka, Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg) has welcomed its first commercial vessel today, September 8, 2015, IAA PortNews journalist reports from the site. Ro-Ro ship Finnmill (Finnlines) with port equipment on board moored at Bronka’s Berth No 2. The ship has delivered 25 Terberg YT 222 marine tractors with the capacity of 35 t each. This state-of-the-art equipment features enhanced capacity and strengthened design of major units.

Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT), managed and operated by Abu Dhabi Terminals, added a new service to its growing network list. Hyundai’s KMS service made her maiden call to Abu Dhabi’s main port on Saturday 5th September with the 6,800 TEU ‘Hyundai Bangkok’. Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has become the latest carrier to increase their services at KPCT

Maersk APM Group Buys Grup Maritim to Expand Port Network in Latin America
A.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S’s terminal unit said Tuesday it agreed to buy a Spanish rival to expand its port network by almost 20 percent. APM Terminals will pay an undisclosed sum for Barcelona-based Grup Maritim TCB, thereby adding 11 container terminals to its existing network of 63.

South Africa mulls R20bn gas port at Saldanha Bay

South Africa could build its first R20 billion ($1.4 billion) liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility at the west coast port of Saldanha Bay to feed gas-to-power projects aimed at easing chronic supply shortages, an official said on Tuesday. Importing LNG is among the options Africa’s most developed economy is considering to diversify its energy sources away from coal and ease power shortfalls that have curbed growth. Several companies, including Shell, Mitsubishi and Sasol, are expected to bid for 3 126 megawatt (MW) gas-to-power projects in the first quarter of 2016.

Statistics covering the first eight months of 201.  The statistics have not been subject to a detailed analysis but rather give an indication of the evolution of the anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguard activities 25 investigations were initiated which included 8 new investigations, 5 expiry reviews, 5 interim reviews and 6 anti-circumvention investigations.

EU and Vietnam reach agreement on free trade deal

The EU and Vietnam have today reached an agreement in principle in the negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), after two and a half years of intense talks.

This agreement will remove nearly all tariffs on goods traded between the two economies. "We have a deal. This finely balanced agreement will boost trade with one of Asia’s most dynamic economies. It sets a new, better and modern model for Free Trade Agreements between the EU and developing countries, and establishes a good standard for the trade relationship between the EU and South East Asia

 
 

European Commission welcomes Kazakhstan’s accession to the World Trade Organization

The European Commission today welcomed the WTO General Council’s decision to approve the accession of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Organization. Once the accession procedure is completed, Kazakhstan will become the 162nd member of the WTO.

The EU has progressively become Kazakhstan's first trade partner, with almost 40% share in its total external trade. Kazakhstan's exports to the EU are heavily dominated by oil and gas which account for more than 80% of the country's total exports. Exports from the EU are dominated by machinery and transport equipment, as well as products within the manufacturing and chemicals sectors. Imports from Kazakhstan substantially exceed EU exports to Kazakhstan.

Trillion-euro global high-tech trade deal agreed

The European Union, the United States, China and the vast majority of the World Trade Organization (WTO) members that were participating in the negotiations agreed today to eliminate custom duties on 201 high-tech products.
The extension of the 1996 Information Technology Agreement (ITA) is the biggest tariff-cutting deal in the WTO in almost two decades
