ATR Signs EUR1,9 bn planes deal with iran

European manufacturer of turboprop aircraft ATR said Monday it had signed a one-billion-euro deal with Iran Air for up to 40 planes after the dropping of US sanctions against Iran.

Georgia on Monday announced plans to build a new deep-water Black Sea port in a $2.5-billion project that aims to boost trade between China and Europe along the historic Silk Road route.

The Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA) is a trade agreement currently being negotiated by 23 members of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), including the EU. Together, the participating countries account for 70% of world trade in services.

The text of the EU-Vietnam Agreement is made public here exclusively for information purposes. The text presented in this document is the text at the end of the negotiations conducted by the European Commission. It will be subject to legal revision in order to verify the internal consistency and to ensure that the formulations of the negotiating results are legally sound. It will thereafter be transmitted to the Council of the European Union and to the European Parliament for ratification. The text presented in this document is not binding under international law and will only become so after the completion of the ratification process.

The World Trade Organisation on Monday ruled against the European Union in a dispute that has been raging since 2009 between the bloc and China over import duties on nuts and bolts.

The EU on Wednesday said it would wait until later this year to decide if China should finally be considered a real market economy, a status keenly sought by Beijing that would make it harder for Europe to limit its cheap exports.

On 1 January 2016, the European Union and Ukraine started applying the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) which forms part of the Association Agreement signed in June 2014. The rest of the Association Agreement has already been in force since November 2014

EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement Now Available On line

Brussels, 1 February 2016
Commission publishes full text of the agreement and dedicated analysis on human rights and sustainable development.

The European Commission today published the text of the free trade agreement (FTA) between the EU and Vietnam, following the conclusion of the negotiating process in December 2015.

In line with its transparency commitments, the Commission makes the text of trade agreements available to the public as soon as the talks are finalised. This will allow all interested stakeholders to become familiar with its content well in advance of the debate in the EU Council and the Parliament. According to the usual procedure, the text will now be subject to a legal review to verify its consistency and ensure that all the provisions are formulated in a legally-sound way. It will then be translated into all EU languages before being presented to the Council and the European Parliament for ratification.

The Vietnam agreement includes all of the key provisions of the new Investment Court System for EU trade and investment negotiations proposed by the European Commission.

Friday5 container weighing

Friday Five

This is the Second of our Friday 5 series giving short five-point updates on key subjects in international trade and logistics during 2016.

Today’s message concerns the new weight verification, which will be in operation from the 1st July this year. It is, however, important to be aware that these rules relate only to goods being transported in containers by sea.

The International Maritime Organization’s safety committee approved the necessary changes to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea Act. This requires the shipper to supply evidence of cargo weight verification. It will be supplied to the ship’s master – or his representative – and also the terminal operator.

1. My first point is that without an approved weight verification certificate your goods will not be shipped.

2. Second, the shipper must be registered with the appropriate authority prior to the export.

3. There is a need to consider which of the two options is best for you. The first requires the shipper to verify the gross mass of the packages and the second method requires the carrier to weigh the packed container, using calibrated and certified weighing equipment with the goods inside. This would mean using a weighbridge prior to the goods arriving at the port. However, you may encounter delays at busy times.

4. The gross mass is required in order to prepare the stowage plan and consideration must be given to any ‘just in time’ operations as they will need strict coordination between the shipper and the carrier.

5. And last, when dealing with LCL cargo, in most cases I would recommend method two to be used. However, the responsibility to provide information still lies with the shipper who is named on the carrier’s bill of lading.

Suez Canal History:

It is recorded that Egypt was the first country to dig a canal across its land with a view to activate world trade.

The Suez Canal is considered to be the shortest link between the east and the west due to its unique geographic location; it is an important international navigation canal linking between the Mediterranean sea at Port said and the red sea at Suez. The idea of linking the Mediterranean sea with the red sea by a canal dates back to 40 centuries as it was pointed out through history starting by the pharaohs era passing by the Islamic era until it was dredged reaching its current condition today.
